A shared ambition for nature’s recovery in the north

Nature North is a partnership of like-minded organisations who have come together to promote the value of nature in the north.

By developing stronger partnerships for nature across a wide range of stakeholders – conservation NGOs, statutory agencies, regional and local authorities, health bodies and industry – we aim to protect and enhance the North’s natural assets, driving climate resilience and green growth through nature recovery.

We know there is a wealth of expertise and experience across the North, and our aim is to build this plan with as many people, organisations and businesses as we can. We are consulting in a number of ways, from focus groups to surveys and interviews and we would really appreciate your involvement in shaping a new and Northern approach to nature’s recovery.

Our aim is to create more, better and connected nature across the north of England. To reverse biodiversity declines, improve the natural resources of our region and transform the lives of people who live here.

Nature doesn’t just make somewhere beautiful to look at, beautiful to be in. It has real, tangible benefits for each and every one of us.

First up, economic benefits. Large scale nature recovery could be a natural engine for the north’s economy, providing thousands of rewarding jobs, new businesses and economic benefits across our region.

Social benefits, too. Restoring our biodiversity and repairing our ecosystems will create better and healthier places to live – improved wellbeing, mental and physical health, reduced rates of asthma, and a better quality of life.

And, of course, environmental benefits. Helping us to adapt to a changing climate and enhance resilience, while providing flood mitigation and reducing and sequestering carbon emissions.

Our aim is to create more, better and connected nature across the north of England. To reverse biodiversity declines, improve the natural resources of our region and transform the lives of people who live here.

Nature is not just nice to have. To be a strong, resilient and economically thriving region, the North must invest in nature.

From forests and floodplains to blanket bog, estuaries and urban nature, the opportunities to invest in nature are widespread – both in location and type of environment. The one thing they all have in common is that investment will enhance nature for the benefit of all, across the North and beyond.
