Nature Recovery: Making A Difference For People
Here at Nature North we know that an investment in nature recovery and green solutions can result in a North where people can thrive. The Nature North Advisory Group is made up of leaders from sectors not primarily focussing on the natural environment, so their advice is vital in the creation of a strategic plan for nature.
In addition to this expert advice, Mandy, our Engagement Coordinator, has been spending time looking at the potential benefits of nature recovery to people who live and work in the North, and connecting with initiatives and organisations that can help unlock these benefits.
Arts and Culture
The natural world and our connection with it, has long been a stimulus for creativity-think Wordsworth’s 1807 ‘Daffodils’ poem. Artistic interpretation of nature can also be a powerful tool for evoking emotional responses to nature and for galvanising climate change action.
There is interest in and commitment to nature recovery across the North from the cultural sector.
In May 2023 Nature North worked with Contemporary Visual Arts Network North West on Art, Climate & Community-Forging Partnerships for a Sustainable Future, an event at the Turnpike Gallery in Leigh.
This event brought artists and environmentalists together for talks, discussion groups and a stimulating walk in nature at Wigan’s Pennington Flash Nature Reserve. The result of this event was a desire for artists and environmentalists to have a mechanism for sharing language and understanding to enable artists to interpret environmental messages in an informed way- a Knowledge Exchange which bridges sectors. Work to define, create and resource this is ongoing.
